Joey Dobbs founds Landscape Workshop in 1984. He and his four employees operate out of a small office located in the Cahaba Heights section of Birmingham, Alabama. Joey hired 60 additional employees and moves his growing team into an expanded office in Pelham, which features a shop and warehouse. The LW team doubled in size, growing to over 125 employees and moves into an even larger space. The team of 200+ employees move for the final time and settle into their new (and larger) home in Bessemer, which remains the location of our Birmingham branch to this day. Landscape Workshop opens its second location in the Gulf Coast of Alabama. The LW team expands to the north and opens the Huntsville, Alabama branch. LW opens their fourth branch in Montgomery/Auburn. Landscape Workshop acquires Memphis-based Environmental Landscape Services and opens their first location in Tennessee. Landscape Workshop is acquired by McKinney Capital, a family-owned company in Birmingham, Alabama. Landscape Workshop Inc. becomes Landscape Workshop LLC and Joey Dobbs remains onboard. Landscape Workshop acquires Birmingham-based Grounds Unlimited. Grounds Unlimited Founder Johnny Mabe stays on board and joins the Landscape Workshop team. Landscape Workshop expands into Knoxville with the acquisition of the Knoxville and Birmingham assets of TruGreen Landcare. Landscape Workshop acquires the Montgomery and Birmingham landscape maintenance assets of Vision Landscapes. Landscape Workshop acquires the landscape assets of Chemscapes and opens the Nashville branch, the third location in Tennessee. Landscape Workshop acquires the landscape assets of Birmingham-based Gro. Landscape Workshop expands into Kentucky with the acquisition of Lexington-based Henkel Denmark, which features landscape maintenance and design/build divisions. Landscape Workshop acquires Bayou Lawn and Landscape Services in Valparaiso, Florida and opens our Emerald Coast branch. Landscape Workshop acquires EcoLandcare, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky and Great Oak Landscape Group in Atlanta, Georgia. Landscape Workshop has 10 branch locations across 6 states, over 600 employees, and is one of the largest landscaping maintenance companies in the US.
