The Intern Files | Alexis Middlebrooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to LW intern Alexis Middlebrooks. A Horticulture major at the University of Georgia, Alexis has proven herself diligent and determined throughout her time with the Central Alabama team. Account Manager Josh Lansdale describes Alexis as “hard-working, highly intelligent, and intuitive.” He adds, “Alexis was able to successfully dig in on every job she was assigned. These were not glamorous jobs. This was hard work that sometimes lasted several days. What she showed me is that she has grit and most definitely what it takes to have a successful career in the green industry.”

How did you first become interested in the green industry?

I have always been interested in agriculture. Poultry science was my introduction to factory farming, but I quickly shifted my focus to agronomy and then ornamental plants.

Why did you decide to intern with LW?

I believe in Landscape Workshop’s values and approach to business.

What is a “typical” day like?

Sweaty. Every day is different; there is no normal, but that’s what I like about landscaping. The common link between each day is a feeling of accomplishment and pride in the work I’ve done.

What have you enjoyed most in your internship?

I’ve enjoyed meeting everyone who works here. There hasn’t been a single person I’ve worked with that I wouldn’t want to work with every day.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far this summer?

Everything in landscaping is connected. We divide jobs into maintenance, enhancements, irrigation, and so on, but there is an overlap between each department. Every job depends on every department working together efficiently.

I am historian of UGA’s poultry science club, an ambassador of our College of Agriculture’s student philanthropy council, and banner chair of UGA’s Sigma Alpha agricultural sorority.
