Tennessee Tech student and Nashville native Isamary Mendoza has spent her summer interning with LW Nashville.  She has worked with a variety of departments and properties and has demonstrated a can-do attitude and eagerness to learn. She has been a great addition to the team! Isa is pursuing a degree in Horticulture and plans to graduate next spring.

How did you become interested in the green industry?

Gardening and growing plants has always been a passion of mine, and when I found out I could get a degree in Horticulture, I switched my major from Social Work to Agriculture and transferred to Tennessee Tech University to pursue my green degree.

Why did you decide to intern with LW?

I decided to intern with LW because I was seeking field experience. Even though landscaping is not something I see myself doing in the long run, I think being well rounded in the industry will be beneficial to my future.

What is a “typical” day like?

A typical day as an intern at LW is get to the shop, help load the truck with essentials for the day, and head to the job sites with the assigned crew. At the end of the day we clean up our trucks and fill up the gas tank for the next days work.

What have you enjoyed most in your internship so far?

I have enjoyed everything I have done from Enhancements to Irrigation. Everyone I worked with was awesome and they taught me many things that were new to me. My favorite project was definitely our install project at OZ Arts Nashville. Even though it was one of the more labor intensive things we did, it was satisfying to see the end result- it looked awesome!

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far this summer?

A valuable lesson I learned this summer is to take every challenge and obstacle as an opportunity to think outside the box and work with the resources available.

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?

If I had a super power, it would be the ability to control the weather so we would never work in the humidity, and it would not rain during work hours.
