LW Receives NALP Award of Excellence

Landscape Workshop is honored to receive a 2019 Silver Award of Excellence from the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) for its work at The National Memorial for Peace and Justice. The memorial opened in 2018 in Montgomery, Alabama and serves to commemorate the victims of racial injustice in American history.

Landscape Workshop began working with The National Memorial for Peace and Justice in May 2018 and initially focused on addressing draining issues and erosion on the property. By improving catch basins and installing both a remote access irrigation system and additional French drains, the team was able to monitor water flow and reduce water spots. The walking path that runs throughout the garden, originally made of pea gravel, was redesigned with concrete. This eliminated the erosion issues and provided a smoother path for visitors. Currently, Landscape Workshop provides grounds maintenance, irrigation support and monitoring, mulching, 7 lawn treatments, 5 seasonal color change outs, turf overseeding, and any needed enhancements.

The NALP Awards of Excellence are bestowed annually and recognize exceptional work in commercial and residential landscape and lawn care installation, maintenance, and design across the U.S. Projects are evaluated based on on overall appearance, project difficulty, and appearance of several specific property elements. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the NALP Awards of Excellence.

Matthew Capps, General Manager of the Montgomery/Auburn branch, noted the significance of this award for everyone involved: “The National Memorial for Peace and Justice is a major tourist attraction for the City of Montgomery and the State of Alabama, and this showcases the work of Landscape Workshop. This is such an honor for Landscape Workshop, but I’m excited for all the folks that are involved with The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, as this was their goal for the landscaping. I am really proud of our team because this is a testament to all of their hard work and effort.”
